Where is my error log ?

This is probably one of the most oft asked questions Users ask of Developers when Developers are trying to figure out why something doesn't work for the User.

For your convenience we happily provide you the location of your error log here.

On Linux

• in ~/.VASSAL

On MacOS

• in ~/Library/Application Support/VASSAL

Note that this directory could be hidden in Finder. Users should check whether it exists from the command-line.

On Windows XP

• in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\VASSAL

On Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10

• in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\VASSAL

From the Module Manager

The error log for the current run is also available under Help > Show Error Log in the Module Manager. Note that starting the error log is overwritten when the Module Manager is started, so if you need to see an error log from the previous run, view it directly rather than starting the Module Manager to view it.

Opening Error Log Directly From Chat

From Vassal 3.6.5 onwards, typing /errorlog open in the chat bar will tell your OS to open the Errorlog in a default viewer.
