The 80 Years War was the pivotal war of the Renaissance as numerous states fought against the Hapsburg crown for independence. Line formations and their superseding of the pike-and-shot style of gunpowder warfare defined the combat in this period, and the consequences of the war created the nations of the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Belgium while contributing to the decline of the Hapsburgs. The last 30 years of the 80 Years War are considered part of the 30 Years War.
