Depois do sucesso inicial do “Dia-D”, passaram-se semanas de duros combates na Normandia. A região era ideal para a defesa, com bocages, bosques, terreno acidentado e cristas. As grandes vantagens aliadas, ou seja, a sua supremacia aérea e a grande mobilidade de suas unidades, haviam sido quase anuladas por aquele combate cerra-do, à curta distância e em terreno difícil. O tempo, por sua vez, também não ajudava, com a chuva sendo um as-pecto constante da campanha. Em fins de julho, o comandante do 1º Exército americano, General Omar N. Bradley, concebeu a “Operação Co-bra”, visando à ruptura do front da Normandia. Aqui você poderá tentar repetir a história e avaliar o que poderia ter sido feito pelos franceses para impedir o desastre que ocorreu. Boa sorte e divirta-se.

After the initial success of D-Day, weeks of fierce fighting followed in Normandy. The area was ideal for defense, with its woods, rugged terrain, and ridges. The Allies’ great advantages, namely their air supremacy and the great mobility of their units, had been all but nullified by the close combat, at close range and in difficult terrain. The weather, in turn, was no help either, with rain being a constant feature of the campaign. In late July, the commander of the American First Army, General Omar N. Bradley, conceived “Operation Cobra,” aiming to break through the Normandy front.
