Category:Texan War of Independence 1835-1836
After Mexico came under the control of President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, he let white American settlers into Texas to create a buffer state between the United States of America. This backfired on him as these settlers brought in African-American slaves despite slavery being illegal in Mexico, and his regime's efforts to stop this alongside other actions to contain them angered the white Texans so much that they went to war against the Mexican government alongside Texan Mexicans to make an independent Texas. The Battle of the Alamo is the most famous battle in this war, and the results of the War created an independent Republic of Texas and overthrew Santa Anna as president of Mexico.
